Author of How to Fix the Future, Andrew is one of the world’s best known and controversial commentators on the digital revolution. Andrew and Lorne’s conversation ranges from fixing your washing machine to fixing the digital age.

One of the world’s best known and controversial commentators on the digital revolution, Andrew asserts that a profound revolution in AI is underway that will transform our collective future, and calls on us to be “masters of our own history.” “The digital revolution in artificial intelligence will change everything. Much of what we took for granted as work is going to go away.”

Warning of the dark side of the digital revolution, Andrew says, “We have become like villages, very local and isolated. The great tragedy is that technology is closing our minds around the world. We congregate with groups that we agree with, we don’t share opinions and have become more intolerant.”

Lorne and Andrew explore solutions outlined in Andrew’s new book How to Fix the Future for preserving our humanity in an increasingly fragmented digital world. “I have five pillars on how to fix the future: Regulation. Innovation. Consumer Power. Citizen Engagement. Education.”

Andrew explores real life examples he studied during his year-long trip around the world to uncover solutions for the digital age, including Estonia, which “has digitalized everything—health records, employment records, death records. . . .but the government isn’t allowed to just look at your records. There is mutual transparency between citizen and governments in terms of what records get looked at and who can look at what.” He also sounds a clarion call for revamping our educational system to prepare us for the new world. “The challenge is coming up with an educational system that doesn’t teach people things, doesn’t teach them a body of information, but [instead] teaches them adaptivity and the ability to perpetually be changing and reinventing themselves.”
