Is there really a lack of talent or are we not hiring the right people? Carolanne Minashi and Johnny Campbell discuss building diverse and inclusive organizations the real way.

In this episode, Carolanne Minashi and Johnny Campbell offer strategies to hire for and build an inclusive culture. Johnny points to learning on the job as key to opening opportunities to diversify the talent pipeline. “You take someone who doesn’t have the right skills and background, maybe because they come from a different background. . . and give them access to learning and they become more engaged, more productive and come up with more creative solutions.”

Carolanne points out that it is one thing to hire for diversity, and another to keep that diverse talent. “You grow an inclusive culture by having leaders that are inclusive,” she says. For her that starts with leaders taking a public stand against bad behavior. “If the leaders don’t intervene, what happens is that the leader signals that that is ok behavior.” As we race to embrace AI to enhance sourcing, Carolanne warns of possible negative impacts on the inclusion imperative. “When I put in my perfect job set, and the computer spits out the ten strongest candidates–they all look the same, they have all been educated in the same way–where is the diversity and inclusion in that?”
